Very good idea. No one can accuse anyone of being a vigilante if they are simply seeing how a business works. There was a woman in my area who sold clothing, specialized clothing. She also tended to sell the same dress to more than one person. We had a dress on layby for a wedding, that she sold to someone else, took a chunk of our money and falsified records. We sent someone in who was my size who wouldn’t be recognized, and asked them to try and buy the same dress. Guess what? She certainly tried to sell it. She got busted, and ended up with a nice tax audit, as well as a full search of her shop, and a black mark against her name on a number of records, especially since she admitted to our lawyer that she falsifies documents to keep her business open. (However, as it never went to court, the evidence could not be used- yet)

Why I say this? She’d done it numerous times, and has been warned if she has one more complaint she will be closed down for good. The more people complain about bad service, the more it is taken seriously. But you need the proof to do it, and the only way to do that is to go in and try the business/service. So, even if a bunch of ‘random’ people enquire, find it not to standard, and complain to the appropriate people, it still works, the more, the better, as the more complaints, the more seriously it is taken.
