Victorian Bush Fires – Animals trapped by insanity

I have donated money to Red Cross, I have donated clothing & toiletries, I’m proud to work for a company that has raised thousands in a matter of days to look after its employees that lost everything. I have helped people.
I now want to help the animals that are also suffering,
The lack of a cohesive strategic plan to get in there and get these animals out has shocked and frustrated me.
Some animal groups are very media savvy and are more interested in talking to the media about what they are going to do, and what there plans are, and then they ask for donations to help them implement these plans. Well its day 7 and their plans still haven’t been implemented, the animals are still there and they are suffering.
Experienced rescuers are lining up to get out there and get these animals, people are offering foster homes for cats and dogs until they can be reunited with their owners.
All these offers of help have been knocked back by the major animal groups.

Traumatized & injured pets are being rounded up and placed in pounds rather than be placed in a loving foster home. Soon the killing will begin. Wildlife are left to fend for them selves or die in pain as the groups are busy raising more money to sit in their bank accounts.

I phoned one animal group, which I am a member of, and asked them “Why haven’t you updated the web site with ways the public can help, people want to help!” I was told “We don’t have any photos yet”. I also asked why they hadn’t alerted the members on what they can do to help, I was told “We don’t have time”. This group’s aim was to dress three of its members in flashy looking uniforms and get some photos This will give the perception that this group is out there helping animals and more money will flow in. Its members will be left to read about it in a glossy newsletter in a few months rather than actually be given the chance to help.
These groups need to learn how to be inclusive rather than self serving, after all it’s the animals that we are all trying to help, isn’t it?

Groups like Rescued with Love and MDBA are ready and have the resources to get out there and do what’s needed but the bureaucracy won’t allow them and the major animal groups don’t want them getting attention; I understand their frustration.

So we have had enough of the games, fuck the photos and the flashy uniforms, the animals don’t need that shit they need caring hands.
I have met many people on the road that feel the same frustration after offering their help to many groups only to be knocked back. They simply jumped in their car and got out there. And yes this small group of people has rescued animals and we are working hard and we are networking and supporting each other. But we all wonder how many more we could save if a few hypocritical animal groups got their bloody act together.

Never think a small group of people can’t change the world indeed it is the only thing that has
