The story of KKK and the Mayor of Wellington

KKK puppy farm located in the Shire of Wellington, (Australia’s capitol of puppy farms and the home of ACA puppy farm) is truly the most evil hell hole I have visited in the 17 years since I started this campaign.
There are approximately 80 adult dogs plus puppies on this property. The property is laid out much like every other puppy farm with outdoor pens all lined up in a row.
It’s the “mother shed” that has kept me awake at night.
A long tin windowless shed with raised wire cages housing scores of mother dogs with their puppies. The floor of the raised cages is also wire. The excrement and waste falls through the wire floor onto the ground presumably for ease of cleaning. Battery dogs.
The mother dogs are placed in these cages shortly before giving birth. Their puppies are born straight onto the wire, their tiny paws at risk of getting stuck in the cage. The only relief from the wire is a plastic bowl. We witnessed the mothers and all of her pups tightly squeezed into these plastic bowls in an attempt to get of the wire cage floor. Mother and pups remain in the cage until they are separated and the pups are driven to the local McDonald’s restaurant to meet the courier who delivers them to Victorian and NSW pet shops. Mum is then placed in an outside pen with a male to start the whole process again.

The Council is well aware of this property and has visited numerous times, they have refused to seize the dogs or at the very least remove them from the cages. It is so bad that some dogs and pups have actually died due to the living conditions.
KKK has been operating since 1996 2 years after the mandatory code of practice came into effect in 1994, and Council has never enforced it. Council are knowingly allowing these animals to suffer. The owner, Kelly, is now appealing to VCAT to remain open after Council delivered a letter to her asking her to shut down. Of course they left the dogs in the cages.

And the Wellington Council DOESN’T CARE, in fact they are laughing at us and making jokes about the animals that are suffering.
I am sure after reading the leaked email below, written by the Mayor of Wellington to his fellow Councilors, that you will let him know that these dogs are not merely statistics, that they are suffering and that we demand action. Don’t be deterred when he ignores your email and gets his sidekick to answer you with a standard template letter, write back to the Mayor (or better still, ring his mobile) and keep demanding justice for these dogs.
They need us to be their voice and we need to be relentless and determined until they are out of their cages.

Hi all,

Yes this is another rant by the PETA inspired group about stopping
farming in general and in this case dog breeding – doesn’t seem to
bother them that Fido has been locked in a small apartment in Hawthorn
but rather that he was bred in the first place!  We have been listed in
several online journals urging people to “write to the Council” – it
used to be “write to the Mayor” but I have been ignoring them (they
started in my last term) – and therefore you might get more of these.
Often these come from overseas,  none of them generally have any
understanding of the issue but have been “inspired” by some photographs
of sad looking pooches and an emotive article.

There are some issues with the ACA dog breeders and with dog breeding
through the Shire in general (I can elaborate if you wish but has to do
with breeders moving to a code of practice) however I have had several
meetings with local laws (Gray Jago) and believe they have it under
control and will continue to monitor the situation – the local RSPCA
officer also agrees with our position.  If you wish you can pass on the
e-mails to Gary as he has a standard response he is sending on – this
does occasionally lead to an ongoing dialogue about “how could
you…..”.  Should you feel inclined to write to them, remember if we
close down ACA (or others) we would have to destroy the dogs… mmmm
doesn’t sound all that humane to me.
