Get them out NOW!

Sorry RSPCA, you’re covered in effluent just like the Paxton’s.

I tried for a week to get you to act and get help for these dogs and this is what you told me.

Hello Debra, From the information you provided I am unaware of any violations against POCTAA. This would be best referred to DPI and with the local council for any CoP issues.

Hello Debra, Are you referring to the email you sent through yesterday or is this a different property?

Hello Debra, In relation to this information I have had inspectors attend on a number of occasions, as well council rangers have also attended. There have been no offences under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act that have been identified. There may be issues with the code of practice but these remain the realm of local government…

So my team was forced once again to risk their lives, enter the property undercover, witness the horror that these dogs were forced to endure, gather the evidence and go to the media. Something we wouldn’t have to do if you, the RSPCA would just do your job and be there “for all creatures great and small”. We don’t get paid for doing your job either.

RSPCA Swoops on Puppy Farm as public outrage builds

And then we watched as you went into damage control

RSPCA Australia CEO Heather Neil said when it comes to dog breeding, puppy farms were at the absolute bottom of the barrel.

“Most Australians would be appalled if they knew where many puppies actually came from,” Ms Neil said.

And then Premier John Brumby joined in demanding the puppy farm be shut down.

Premier joins fight to shut down puppy farm.

Victorian RSPCA president Maria Mercurio yesterday revealed she had personally called Moorabool Shire to see how her organization could assist in shutting down the farm.

“I got off the teleconference an hour ago. My opening line was how can we assist to close down this puppy farm? It is our common objective,” Ms Mercurio said.

“They made it clear to me that it was their intention and I was pleased to hear that resolve.”

Why RSPCA why ? Why didn’t you act immediately? Why do you have to wait for media attention BEFORE you will help animals and PREVENT cruelty. Your inspectors have been turning their backs on the Paxton’s dogs for EIGHT YEARS.

For 18 years a dedicated team of activists has been forced to enter properties undercover and collect evidence of shocking cruelty that is occurring on hundreds of puppy farm’s in this country. They are accused of “acting illegally”, being “terrorists”. We have our homes raided in the middle of the night, computers and equipment confiscated, sick traumatized animals ripped from us and returned to their abusers. We have infiltrators determined to bring us down, but NEVER succeed. I am honored and proud to work with such a brave group of people, who never ever give up, who protect and look after each other, who are prepared to risk everything in order to bring this hidden industry into public view. We will continue to do so.

If we are trespassing, so were the soldiers who broke down the gates of Hitlers death camps. If we are thieves so were the members of the underground railroad who freed the slaves of the South. If we are vandals so were those who destroyed for ever the gas chambers of Auschwitz. Author Unknown

WE WANT OSCARS LAW  – VOTE NOW

UPDATE: 29/3/10

Members of our team and local residents have witnessed Les Paxton at the Adamo puppy farm (more on this soon) almost daily for the last few weeks.

On the 25/3/10 Les Paxton was witnessed arriving at Adamo’s puppy farm where they both were observed loading “dead animals” into a large pit at the back of the property.

At 1.15 AM on the morning of 26/3/10 we witnessed a male light a huge roaring fire in this pit to burn the dead animals bodies.

Hell on Earth

Les Paxton has operated an illegal puppy farm for at least 8 years. The RSPCA, local Council, Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and others have all known about it, none have had the courage to act. Government authorities have been receiving complaints for years about this puppy farm. Each complaint is followed up with the obligatory inspection, the report is shelved, and there it stays until the next complaint. The 60 + dogs lived their lives in misery and time and time again were overlooked by the authorities.  This property is pure hell on earth for animals.

Here is only a very small part of a Council report from late September 2009.

Requirements: Food and Water containers must be non-spillable and of a design that can be easily cleaned.

Council report: Photos show raw meat on the ground for animals to eat, and water containers tipped over.

Requirements: The proprietor must ensure that the establishment is clean and hygienic at all times. All pens must be cleaned out at least once per day.

Council Report: Pens do not appear to be cleaned regularly, faecal matter and significant amounts of mud present in pens, around property and on dogs.

Requirements: All kennels must be provided with a weatherproof sleeping area containing raised beds constructed of material other than concrete, such as wood or plastic.

Council Report: All kennels appear to have concrete bottoms, do not appear to provide protection from rain and five kennels are not sufficient to provide for 30 dogs.

Minimum Standard: Owners must provide dogs with sufficient water, food, shelter and veterinary treatment.

Council Report: Given evidence on site of avoidable fatalities, it is considered that the subject facility does not comply with this standard.

Minimum Standard: Owners must provide both basic necessities and good quality of life for their dogs.

Council Report: Photographic evidence does not reflect a good quality of life for the dogs.

Minimum Standard: Dogs must have access to clean drinking water at all times.

Council Report: From the site photographs, access to clean drinking water does not appear to be readily available.

Minimum Standard: A dogs health and welfare must be checked daily. Veterinary advice must be sought promptly for dogs showing signs of injury, ill health or distress.

Council Report: Given evidence on site of avoidable animal fatalities, it is considered that the subject facility does not comply with this standard.

Minimum Standard: Dogs must be provided with a weatherproof sleeping area and shelter from sun, wind and rain.

Council Report: Some emclosures did not have any roofing, other dogs were tethered without shelter.

Minimum Standard: Enclosures must allow dogs to walk freely, urinate and defecate away from sleeping and eating area’s.

Council Report: Photographs indicate that there are some enclosures which do not appear to be large enough to provide sleeping and eating area’s. Further there is evidence of animals tethered in exposed area’s without shelter (in these instances there is evidence of fatalities)

Minimum Standard: Vehicles must not be used for permanent housing for dogs.

Council Report: At least 3 animals were tethered to derelict motor vehicles.

Investigations show that the applicant is running a puppy farm and often advertises through the Melbourne Trading Post.  Other issues that arose from the visit were; inappropriate and unhygienic manner of animal carcasses left to rot on the ground. The number of dogs on the property – 59. The manner in which dogs are housed. The house does not provide adequate shelter or space per animal and as shown on the photographs obtained by compliance officers, many of the animals were living and covered in their own faeces.

The Victorian Politicians tell us the legislation is working and the multitude of Government departments perpetuate this myth by covering up the cruelty time and time again. Every Government department that inspected this property in the last 8 years and turned their back on these dogs have blood on their hands. The report stated AVOIDABLE FATALITIES.

This is why we need OSCAR’S LAW. No one is looking after the animals, no one.

On February 22nd 2010 once again we prepared ourselves to walk right into the firing line simply for what we believe in – justice for the dogs on puppy farms and to expose the authorities cover up of this atrocious cruelty. I cannot find words to describe how traumatic it is to witness abhorrent cruelty time and time again. My thanks to the amazing, brave, committed, loyal activists who stand with me and risk everything to bring the public the truth.

The dogs are still living in their own faeces and urine, they don’t have adequate shelter or even a warm bed.

They still don’t have food bowls, raw slimy meat is left rotting on the ground.

The dogs still do not have an adequate water supply, most of the water bowls were empty, the little water that was there was filth.

How many dogs have endured this hell in the last 8 years while the authorities did nothing? How many dogs have died and their bodies left to rot on this property while the authorities did nothing?

The dogs need us, we cannot let them down.

Please email the Council Mayor and the RSPCA Inspectorate Manager Greg Boland  gboland@rspca.vic.gov.au

Tell them enough is enough! Tell them you want them to immediately remove the surviving dogs and ban Les Paxton from ever owning an animal again and charge him under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act NOW.

And then email the Premier John Brumby john.brumby@parliament.vic.gov.au

Pet Shops Are Selling Cruelty

ACA/Banksia Park puppy farm breed over 2500 puppies a year to supply around 18 pet shops around Australia.

The dogs live in outside dirt pens that are surrounded by electric fencing wire, to stop the dogs trying to escape. When the female dogs are due to give birth they get a change of scenery and are moved into one of four tin sheds. Here they are placed in a concrete cell with a cardboard box for approximately 8 weeks until they birth and wean their puppies. They are then shoved back in the electrified outside pens with the males. The male dogs never get a change of scenery until the day comes when they are taken out of the pen to be killed. The females are killed once their litter numbers begin to get smaller.

This is life on a puppy farm for over 400 dogs on this one property.

ACA/Banksia Park puppy farm are endorsed by the Pet Industry Association of Australia.

They have listed themselves as “suppliers”, they dont like saying the words “puppy factory”

“Pet shops do not buy from puppy mills because the pets are of poor quality and often not well,” says PIAA chief executive officer Dr Joanne Sillince. “And that’s the last thing a pet shop owner wants at the window — an animal that isn’t in a peak of health. Most of the pictures you see in the media are old footage — more than half a decade old — because puppy farms are now so rare and are not being supported by the industry.” March 2009.

Help change the way Australia gets their pets. Don’t let the Pet Industry of Australia tell us how our pets can be kept, bred and sold.
