Australia day 2012, reflect and think of the underdogs, the battlers, those who volunteer to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome healthy dogs that would otherwise die….true Aussie heroes…, and of course all the dogs battling to survive on puppy factories.
There are still people that don’t realise we factory farm our pets in this country, we still have work to do, we need to create way’s to reach our animal loving community.
“Aimee” found out the hard way, like so many people do.
Aimee wanted a puppy; she purchased an adorable little pug from what she thought was a ‘breeder’. They say dogs have a way of finding people who need them, and you could say Aimee needed Indy to show her the way.
A few days after getting her little pug puppy home, Aimee noticed sores appearing on Indy’s face. She phoned the ‘breeder’ as she was told about a ‘health guarantee’. Aimee did what she was asked and returned Indy to the breeder for ‘treatment’.
After about a week Aimee returned to the property to check on her puppy
I discovered Indy outside in a cage, without any hair, sick, no food or water and out in the pouring rain. I was horrified I grabbed my puppy and told the breeder I was taking her home. Indy ended up at my vets for a week in critical condition, she had mange and parvo. I contacted the breeder to be compensated for my vet costs, she refused as I did not get Indy treated at her vets”
Indy survived but required 12 months of weekly treatment.
The story could of ended there but Aimee was determined to seek justice so she took the ‘breeder’ to VCAT.
On 5th December 2011 Kelly Kesper owner of KKK puppy factory was ordered by VCAT to pay $2,000 to Aimee for compensation.
Kelly Kesper has had her permit revoked twice, the first time she appealed to VCAT and won. She has now lodged another application to VCAT to reinstate her breeding permit. Kelly continues to keep dogs in appalling filthy conditions, employing her children and friends who only care about the cash, not the tortured lives in the sheds.
Kelly Kesper continues to breed and sell despite not having a permit to do so. I am sure Kelly is enjoying Australia Day without a second thought for the miserable dogs in her shed or for the pain and stress she inflicts on the puppies of those dogs.
Indy battled and survived KKK puppy factory, the mange and the parvo. “Aimee” battled and fought for justice and won, she now knows puppy factories exist and educates everyone she knows.
There are thousands of dogs battling to survive right now in filthy sheds across this country. Some will never see daylight; will never know life as a dog should. They will die without having moved a few metres from where they were born. They will not be forgotten and we will create justice and abolish this industry that has no conscience.
So while the puppy farmers, the brokers, the pet shops and the vets who support this industry celebrate Australia Day and forget the dogs, lets not forget those little Aussie battlers like Indy, showing us the way and teaching us all a valuable lesson, dont buy puppies from online trading sites or from pet shops, be part of the solution. Thank you “Aimee” for speaking out, battling to seek justice and for loving Indy.
The battle continues………….
